Even though unwilling to commit a sin, at times why do men commit sins as if forced into it?

Arjuna asked, “Even though unwilling to commit a sin, at times why do men commit sins as if forced into it?”

Lord Krishna replied, “It is because of all consuming and extremely sinful attributes of passion. Desire and wrath are born when you are passionate. Those two are the enemy of this world.  As fire is enveloped by smoke, mirror by dust, the foetus by the womb, knowledge is enveloped by desire. Arjuna, the perpetual foe of the wise is desire and it is insatiable like fire. It envelops the real knowledge. Desire resides in the senses, mind and intelligence. And it unsuspectingly envelops knowledge and deludes a person. Therefore, from the beginning, restrain your senses and cast off this wicked thing known as desire, which can destroy the knowledge derived from instruction and self-realisation. Senses are superior to body. Mind is superior to senses. Knowledge is superior to mind. But the self is superior to knowledge. Therefore, restraining your inner self by self, slay the indomitable enemy that manifests in the form of desire”
